My late Mother was the original owner, this was her wedding diamond, a gift from my Father, a Fine Jewelry Manufacturer in Los Angeles. My Father was one the early manufacturers in the history of the Los Angeles Jewelry District (circa 1950's - 60's). One of my Father's diamond suppliers was Harry Kotlar, this stone may have original come Harry Kotlar Co. I'm going to guess the stone was cut somewhere between late 1950's - early 1960's. My Mother got quite a few pieces of jewelry, being the wife of a fine jeweler. I don't know if this was her original engagement stone, or if that stone may have been upgraded to a larger stone after marriage. This is a stunningly beautiful diamond. How I priced this diamond: I created my imaging for comparison with Blue Nile & James Allen. These two sites represent the high quality at best value prices. If you study diamonds currently available on the market (video imaging) there is nothing as visually fine as this diamond with same grading criteria. You have to go up into the $14-$15K range to find stones of this visual quality. My price is based on the GIA report (which is subjective), inventory presently on the market, as well as current Rapaport Diamond Report price guide. It is entirely possible GIA has graded this diamond on the low side of each criteria. It could be borderline VS/VVS, borderline cut quality (G/VG), borderline color (D/E). If I don't sell this diamond beforehand, am considering sending it in for another report, and possibly raising the price accordingly. Video might be slightly off with regard to color correction, or your viewing device. Stone is colorless (E). Unusual shape, highly sought after old stock untreated emerald. I contacted an Emerald supplier out of Bogata to discuss pricing on this heirloom stone (local old family acquisition, unset from a Victorian pendant & then the young lady who inherited the piece decided she wanted to sell it; the pendant was well over 100 yrs old). I know, heart breaking Anyhow, the dealer of high quality rough and cut material who I contacted offered me $1400, but said I should ask double that figure...I figured that if I could ensure this treasure to a loving home with one of my friends, I'd much rather see it well placed than priced according to its quality Color is true to a top tier emerald...even at its modest size of 6.94x5.18x3.91mm, the hue is deep and lustrous. Under magnification you can detect a few tiny surface reaching fissures...being that it is untreated, they're very insignificant and pose no structural issues as the stone is well built around the edges.
