I know royal blues are not everyone’s cup of tea, also because only too often blackish pebbles are incorrectly labeled “royal blue”, although they are of course not. A sapphire that deserves to be called “royal blue” must be of vivid saturation, pretty much by definition. This is a sapphire that is quite dark in tone, but of vivid saturation at the same time. Very much the real deal, in my opinion. What makes this sapphire special is that it is also practically free of inclusions, some would call it loupe clean. Perfectly even color distribution, no zoning (if something looks uneven, it is my photography, not the stone, I promise). This is a lovely vintage ring with a beautiful, natural sapphire cabochon. Probably made in Switzerland, about 20-40 years ago. 18K white gold, tested as such and stamped accordingly (“750”). The sapphire cabochon is a pretty denim blue, a darker, moody shade, but certainly not blackish, as sometimes seen in vintage sapphire. It is very clean for a cabochon, perfectly transparent, with only a little bit of color zoning. The stone is free of chips/abrasions or any other damage. The sapphires measures approximately 7.60 x 5.20 x 3.40 mm (measured in setting) and weighs an estimated 1.45 ct (calculated by formula). This is a strangely beautiful little Umba sapphire, unheated and AGL certified as such. AGL was a bit cruel calling it “brownish pink”, but then they wanted to make a point that it is not a padparadscha. To me it looks beautifully peachy, and it is a very sparkly little gem. The typical Umba inclusions are very visible in the pictures, but it faces up eye clean at arm’s length. They are made in Switzerland, vintage, about 20-30 years old, and in excellent condition. The Chrysoberyls are about 5.90 mm (diameter) and 4.00 mm deep, weight is approximately 0.90 ct each. They are extremely well cut (not the smallest hint of a window), very sparkly and brilliant, and the color is just gorgeous. It's a super lush yellow, with just the right amount of green in it for bright neon overtones. These stones are definitely a flashy choice. There are 6 diamonds in total, approximately 0.08 ct each for a total diamond weight of 0.48 ct. Fine quality, my estimate is F-G/VVS. This is a fabulous unheated Ceylon sapphire, weighing 3.07 ct. The color is a medium cornflower-type blue, not too light and not too dark. This is a lovely unheated sapphire ring that I got as a trade-in, so I am in a position to pass it on to someone at a really good price. The ring is in impeccable pre-loved condition, I just re-polished the metal, gave it a fresh coat of rhodium, and had the center sapphire AGL certified (Gem Brief, see last picture). The sapphire is certified unheated/untreated and shows a color change, AGL certified as “strong“, from blue to purple. Both colors show with very high saturation, it is a rather deeply colored, moody gem, yet never blackish or anything close to it. In some light the purple has a very vibrant, almost hypnotic character. Eye clean, well cut, no window (it has a little culet though, like an antique diamond, very cute). Incredible deal for old cut lovers. Super spready (8mm+) GIA certified L color, I1 clarity transitional cut (GIA language “circular brilliant”) with a large culet. Looks really gorgeous, faces up very white for a “L” and the I1 clarity does not take away from the overall beauty of this stone. All in all the diamond looks much nicer in real life than what the close up pictures suggest. I1 diamonds always look terrible through a macro lens, but on the hand this one is really nice and not far away from eye clean.
