Description

Up for sale is an antique (19th century) Portuguese gold cross. The cross is a representation of the order of christ, which was knightly order founded by King Denis I of Portugal to protect the Portuguese templars. Since, then, it has become the symbolic representation of the country of Portugal. Since this cross was made during the 19th century, it was made back when the Portuguese monarchy still existed.

The cross is made of at least 18k gold, but likely is 19k gold, as 19k is the standard gold purity in Portugal. Most of these crosses were made in silver, so to find one in solid gold is very rare. Both sides are covered in red and white enamel glass. Just to note, the enamel on the bottom part of the cross has been repaired, which can be seen in the pictures. It measures 4.1cm x 3cm and weighs 7 grams.
