I found this lovely little Hermes box compact at at one of my favorite vintage dealer's ... but magpie that I am, I need to declutter, so it needs to find a new home where it can shine properly! It's an elegant wine-red leather with coordinating stitching, with a fully hallmarked solid sterling silver catch, measuring 3" square by half an inch high.
It appears to have been used for face powder: you can still see remnants in the edges, and it comes with a period puff (the original owner used Coty, apparently, which looking at the logo, dates it to between the 1920s and the 1940s, though, to be fair, the sleek Art Deco lines were a big tell to begin with). It has its original mirror inside, in good condition with one small spot of silvering: in general, it is in good vintage condition, but shows some light wear (please see pics).
This could have been a stand-alone piece for a lady to carry in her purse, or possibly part of a vanity or travel set: incorporate it into yours for a touch of old-world glamor! It would make a fabulous travel jewelry case if you use a little silk pouch.
As always, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions! I'm told Loupe Troop has been having some issues with communication: if you've written to me without receiving a response, please feel free to get in touch via my shop on Etsy! https://www.etsy.com/shop/OtherwiseEngaged
