This Edwardian card case is a gorgeous artifact of the past with some very modern potential! Constructed of a richly hued 14k gold and hallmarked with a "13" and what appears to be either a horizontal trident or pitchfork - I am assuming European - this piece was in all likelihood originally a calling-card case. Measuring approximately 3" by 2 3/4" (or 8 centimeters by 4.5 centimeters, depending on your preferred unit), it's a little smaller than the run-of-the-mill business card of today, but it would be fabulous for creating the right impression with custom cards, or for use as an astonishingly elegant way to keep your cash.
It's monogramed TED in a beautiful engraver's hand, but I don't think that limits potential buyers to those lucky enough to be named Theodore, Edward, or Theodosius: I've always preferred to think of it as an acronym. Does it stand for The Educated Dealer? The Elusive & Debonair? The Enchanting Dandy? The Effervescent Dragon-slayer? The Essential Dude? The Elegant Doctor? You decide.
Weighing in at a significant 43 grams, this case was constructed with sensuous lines to curve invisibly into a tight vest or neatly cut waistcoat. It adapts perfectly to jeans or black tie today - a great gift for your special gentleman friend, or, for that matter, yourself.
