This is a pre-owned, but never worn white gold ring in its original box that features diamond chips arranged in a circle, (cocktail style?), complete with a 14kt white gold band. My old boss (real-estate agent who was always showing off how much $ he had) originally bought the ring as a birthday present for his wife in Canada, paying $10,000 USD. I told him not to do it (he was inebriated) he bought it anyway. His went through a divorce not too long after trip and I got the ring not his ex.
Itook it to a jewelry recycle shop last week, but their offer was a few hundreddollars. I asked the appraiser what she thought personally and she suggested selling it online and that someone would buy it for a higherprice than what she was allowed to offer. After reading reddit on places tosell rings, I am listing it now on ebay.
My knowledge of jewelry, particularly diamonds, is zilch. I was expecting dimes on the dollar, but 250 seems too low. Before the recycle shop, I showed two colleagues at the hospital, both ofwhom admired it and said someone would want to buy it. While their opinionsdon't necessarily matter, the ring is at least desirable to folks. According to my colleague, it's a size 7 and was made and purchased in Canada 7 years ago.
If I can’t sell for more than $500, I'll hold on to it. The whole motivation for figuring out how to sell a ring started as a way to help a friend in Tanzania, Tihto Mtitu, whose house was damaged by flooding a few months back. He's a former village mate from when I served as aPeace Corps volunteer. I've already sent him some money, but I thought this could be a way to send more, I'm listing it for way less than what boss paid (but he was an idiot). I am hoping to sell for $600-700
