This beautiful and very sparkly old cut diamond engagement ring was found in England....
Crafted of solid 18K gold, the ring features 9 very fiery old European cut diamonds set in a beautiful cluster design...a bit like a daisy style cluster and a bit like an antique cross design...very elegant and just a little different. The total estimated carat weight is approximately .92 carats.
Measuring approximately 4.2 mm in diameter, the center diamond is a very chunky diamond with small, high table and an open culet. Super fiery and bright, I would estimate it to be approximately .28 carats, or so. It has a faint to light yellow color, especially seen under magnification. To my naked eye it "faces up" with a very bright light champagne color. Nice and eye-clean, I see only a few clear inclusions under magnification. It's in wonderful condition, with no nicks, chips or scratches that I can see. It's bezel setting retains it's milgrain edging, though it does show a little smoothing to the detail under magnification.
Four more bezel-set diamonds are present (again with milgrain edging the bezels), set both above, below and to either side of the central diamond. These are also very chunky, fiery old European cut diamonds with small, high tables and open culets. Each measuring approximately 3 mm in diameter, I would estimate their total carat weight to be approximately .48 carats, or so. Facing up quite white, I would judge their color to be in the J-K-L range and they are eye-clean. Under magnification I see some clear inclusions, including what looks like a surface reaching inclusion in one stone.
The four smallest old European cut stones are bead-set along the outer edge of the cluster, placed between the four bezel-set diamonds in the filigree design of the face. These diamonds each measure approximately 2.1 to 2.3 mm in diameter and are estimated to weigh approximately .16 carats total, given their chunky old cuts and open culets. Beautifully fiery and eye-clean, I would judge their color to be in the J-K-L range of color. Under magnification I see some clear inclusions and one diamond with a bit of dark carbon, that I can only see with magnification. Their small bead settings show a little wear, so I would recommend keeping an eye on them for future re-tipping. Milgrain also edges the round outer border of the ring, with some areas showing some smoothing.
With a lovely * very sparkly * presence on the hand, the face of the ring measures approximately 12 mm in diameter and has a rise off the finger of approximately 4 mm at it's highest point. Open work in the gallery allows lots of light into the diamonds.
Simple by design, the band is in good condition with a mark inside of "18ct." The ring appears to have been rhodiumed sometime recently, so the finish is nice and bright. The total weight of the ring is 3.10 grams.
