This cross is a vintage gold cross from Portugal. It was made in the city of porto, between 1938-1984 as indicated by the hallmark on the bale. Because it is Portuguese, it is made of their unique gold purity (19.2k) which has a 5% greater gold content than 18k (800/1000) vs (750/1000).

Being a Catholic country Portugal has a lot of religious jewelry including crucifixes. Filigree is a specialty of Portugal and they have been handmaking filigree jewelry for hundreds of years. Surrounding Christ’s center figure is a halo of filigree gold beads which is a unique and beautiful stylistic choice. The detail is really amazing. Also, because the gold is vintage, it has developed a really great patina on the gold which gives it a great visual texture. The cross itself is about 5cm long and weighs 2.6 grams.
