This stone looks good in all light, but it becomes more vivid under LED & fluorescent light, & it is absolutely stunning, fluorescing in shaded sunlight even becoming more vivid & takes on a bluish overtone that reminds me of Tanzanian Vanadium Chrysoberyl. It also fluoresces bright red under UV light. The stone faces up directly eye clean in hand. If you tilt the stone under stronger light & look through the table, you’ll see a small inclusion under the crown. This in no way affects the beauty of the stone, & you must look for it. So, I’ll call the stone eye clean to very slightly included in all but bright direct sunlight. There is a very small yellow color zone you can see in the blown-up videos. This is not apparent to the naked eye at all except in direct sunlight, then it is small to almost nonexistent depending on the stones orientation by turning it north to south. A prong should be able to cover this. There is a divot on the pavilion behind the crown. This is where a natural was & will not compromise the stone to be set. It cannot be seen face up & looking at the pavilion look like a tiny pinpoint of light. Hard to see. In closing, this is an extremely rare gemstone, among the very rarest I’ve ever owned. With a dispersion (break up of light into spectral colors) of 0.051 as compared to Diamond’s 0.044 & being doubly refractive, Sphene displays a lot more fire than Diamond. Sphene also has a very high refractive index up to 2.11 which is higher than Zircons up to 1.99. Sphene is a relatively soft stone though at 5 - 5/12 hardness. Though it can be worn in rings, great care & conservative wearing is the rule. Great for pendants & earrings, but you do need a bench jeweler who is very experienced with colored stones to set it. This Sphene is about as good as it gets. Though the video is nice, this stone is better in person, shooting fireworks of color in every direction. Truly an amazing “Flame Spinel!” This stone just glows so much that it makes the video & pictures look somewhat blurry, they’re not, it is that electric glow. It is the glow from the stone that makes the definition of the cut & facets looked blurred. This stone is not sleepy either, it just glows, & is one of the hardest stones I ever tried to photograph. The color is truly hard to capture, let alone the brilliance. I tried my best to capture the color, brilliance, & glow, but honestly, just like a top color Emerald, this stone just needs to be seen in person to truly appreciate its beautiful color & glow! The Spinel has a high crown & many facets turning it into a dispersive fireball. It has a desirable medium light tone. No window & very little extinction. Very clean. The proportions are not perfect, but the stone faces up great & full of life. With material this fine, it is all about the color, glow, & this Spinel delivers & then some. But again, it just must be seen in person to really appreciate. The video taken under LED & fluorescent light does show some of the neon in this stone but could not quite capture the red component, though the stone does appear more orange under LED & fluorescent light. Still, it is hotter reddish orange. The video in natural sunlight shows more of the red in this stone, but still, it is redder & neon in person. It is electric! It was taken on December 20, on an Iowa afternoon. Here in Iowa, the sun only raises to around 10:00 at its highest in mid-December.
