Demantoid Garnet is rare over 1 carat & even more so over two carats.
Demantoid Garnet has the highest dispersion of any gemstone. Which is to say, it breaks up the color spectrum of light stronger than Diamond & reflects different sparkling colors to the eye. It has the highest refractive indice of any Garnet, almost Diamond like, hence the name Demantoid = Diamond like. It is also the most expensive variety of Garnet & one of the most expensive colored gemstones.
This Demantoid hails from Namibia. Though not the bright grass green of the Russian stones, which can command $10,000 or more a carat, depending on size & quality, these Naimbia stones are noted for giving off more dispersion, since their generally lighter in color.
This stone is eye clean (inclusions that can be seen in the blown up picture, cannot be seen with the naked eye) & spectacular, with loads of dispersion. Unfortunately, dispersion is a hard thing to catch on camera, & the video, & the picture, does not do it justice. A steal for $699.00.
