A undeniably elegant Edwardian engagement ring, circa 1901–1910. Created during an era celebrated for its refinement and exceptional craftsmanship, this beautiful platinum solitaire is a wonderful example of the light, airy designs that have made Edwardian jewelry so beloved for more than a century.
At its center, a bright white 1.48-carat antique diamond radiates exceptional sparkle with an impressive face-up size, the cut of the diamond being slightly spready, its measurements are equivalent to a modern cut diamond of 1.60-1.75 carats. Exceptionally white for an antique diamond, it has a recently completed GIA Report boasting H color with eye-clean I1 clarity. Old-cut diamonds come alive in changing light, producing broad, romantic flashes and revealing the charming open culet that antique diamond lovers so admire.
The mounting is an especially fine example of the period. The gallery beneath the center diamond dramatically draping, resembling delicate fabric swags adorned with tiny diamonds. Airy pierced metalwork creates the illusion that the center diamond is floating, while glittering accent diamonds are nestled throughout the design, adding subtle sparkle from every angle. Feminine, romantic, and effortlessly sophisticated, this is a ring that will draw admiring glances wherever it is worn.
Just returned from GIA (Report #2231997860), the center diamond measures an impressive 7.57 × 7.74 × 4.27 mm, with a 66% table, 55.8% depth, and a medium culet—beautiful characteristics that speak to its antique origin and unique personality.
Whether chosen as an engagement ring or added to a treasured antique jewelry collection, this Edwardian beauty is a timeless reminder that true elegance never goes out of style.
