Well, this is a gem I had not planned to offer, but circumstances have made me need to consider it. So, just in time for the holidays, I'm offering my 7 mm round cut, 1.58 ct mahenge spinel, set in a JuliaB 18k YG size 9 "tulip" ring.
If you're familiar with mahenge spinels, you probably recognize how difficult it is to find a perfectly cut, beautifully colored ROUND in almost any size now, but when I bought this one a few years back, they were already getting difficult to find in rounds above 4-5 mm in size. I had to look hard to find this one, and I paid a premium price for it. In fact at the time I probably overpaid, but it was so hard to find a nice 7 mm round that I felt like I had to grab it!
I have a PS thread about this one with tons of pics and info throughout, click here to see it:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/latest-acquisitions.213078/
Specs:
- natural, untreated 1.58 ct reddish pink (with a hint of orange, which gives the color a nice bit of extra oomph!) mahenge spinel
- 7 mm round, Portuguese cut
- Excellent crystal, excellent cut (not precision, but very finely cut; and absolutely no window, though there are the typical tilt windows present in a correctly done Portuguese cut)
- Color ranges from very pink to very red (when fluorescing in UV sunlight it can look quite red) to showing more orange, and everywhere in between; I find it beautiful all of the time, but some indoor lighting does cause more of an orange tone. It definitely looks best in indirect sunlight, but I think it's always quite beautiful.
- Originally sourced from Jaimeen at Prima (the King of mahenges, lol)
- Purchased from and set by etsy jeweler JuliaB in her tulip setting, see setting here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/155466323/custom-design-tulip-ring
- Setting is 18k yellow gold with 4 tulip "prongs" and 4 tiny diamonds, one in each "petal" (I did ask for upgraded diamonds but they're so tiny, I honestly can't tell anything about them, they look white to me though).
- Ring is size 9 and should be easily sizeable by a good jeweler (but I would recommend using someone trusted to size it).
- Ring is in very good condition and was only lightly worn, I'm sure a light polish would make it look brand new. It will come in a nice box (the box I received it in). The gem itself looks perfect to me (from what I can tell by close examination, although I don't have a loupe).
- Asking $3050 shipped in US
Pics show it loose and set (you can see many more loose pics of it in the thread I linked to above), but buyer will receive it set as shown. It is extremely sparkly, so it can be a bit difficult to photograph. Other rings shown for stacking purposes only, not included.
At this time I'm not going to entertain removing the stone from the setting. Options if the buyer wants a different setting would be to sell the setting or resize/reuse it; this setting in 18k yellow gold is currently $895. I paid $3,000 for this stone at the beginning of 2015; at the JCK show this past June, I was able to see Jaimeen's stock. I only saw one round that was even a close match to my stone; it was a round but definitely smaller (maybe 5.5-6 mm), not as strongly saturated, and was still priced in the thousands. I discussed this with Yvonne Raley at the show and was told that $3000 would definitely be a reasonable asking price for my stone, in her opinion :)
So, with that in mind, I'm going to initially ask $3050 shipped OBO for this ring. Usually I would offer a bigger discount, but prices have only gone up on these as they become increasingly rare, particularly rounds larger than 5 mm. I'm definitely not going to profit here, I'm just trying to get as much back as possible from what I have into this one. Feel free to make an offer; all reasonable offers will be considered.
I typically do not offer returns, but I recognize that this is a significant purchase! That being so, I will offer a 48 hour review period (and it would need to be returned fully insured, via overnight USPS mail at the buyer's expense. This is also how I will ship it).
A note on pymt - pymt via PayPal "friends and family" is always very much appreciated, but not a necessity :). However, if the buyer uses it, I will offer free shipping, making the ask price $3000 even (shipping is roughly a $60+ value - the insurance is very expensive, plus I will be using USPS priority express which is a 1-2 day service depending on area).
I ship within the US only (due to insurance issues with int'l shipping). PayPal only please. I'm katharath on PS, and I've had many successful transactions here, selling from my personal collection.
Still have questions? Just ask! I have a ton of additional pics of this one, and will be happy to answer any questions that I can.
