Note – On the finger pictures you will see some white spots. Those are not chips in the faceting bit tiny negative inclusions reflecting light back. These cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Genuinely nice strongly reddish-purple Spinel, re-cut by Dan Stair from a 5.02 carat stone to a 4.36 carat stone. Will fit in a 9 mm x 11 mm mount.
The stone reminds me of reddish Amethyst from the Four Peaks area in Arizona but has all the superior optical properties & hardness of Spinel. No gray in this stone, which is rare for this color Spinel. Medium dark in tone, but a light medium dark. Closer to medium tone than dark tone. Nice red & purple flash in many lighting situations. Holds its color well in all lights. Very good dispersion.
A gem.
