The Art Nouveau movement, in terms of dates, covers the period 1890-1910 approximately, or late 19th century to pre-First World War.
A visually decadent period the pieces are easily identifiable in style. Plique-à-jour, a French term that translates (as nearly as can be determined) to "letting in the daylight" and defines a type of transparent enamel that has no backing. Similar to a stained glass window, the design has a metal outline filled with various colored transparent, glass-like enamels. To own Plique-a-jour jewelry is very much owning wearable pieces of art. These breathtaking Vintage Estate Earrings are made in the Art Nouveau style featuring classically styled Cherubs holding floral garland and interspersed with twinkling bright white diamonds over a green plique-a-jour ground. They are marked 18k gold on the back of the earrings themselves, the posts, and the butterfly backs, metal content tested and confirmed.
The beautiful green enamel work glows when touched by light and is simply stunning in beauty. These are such unique and rare pieces we are only able to find a few similar examples in our research. While Art Nouveau in style we believe these to be reproductions of an original Art Nouveau design made in the 1980s, they are most definitely Vintage but may not be original antiques. These are exceptional stunning heirloom quality earrings to be enjoyed for a lifetime. 0% Interest Layaway Available www.HeritageJewelry.com
